Tom is majoring in Electrical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He finds inspiration from The Analects of Confucius, “when I walk along with two others, they may serve me as my teachers”. He alerts himself to stay humble and learn from everyone around him.
As a future engineer, Tom finds ways to serve the community with his expertise. He joined the Repair Fairy, an NGO that offers home repairs for older adults living alone, people with disabilities and low-income families, as a starting point. Not limiting himself to his own field, Tom volunteered as a mental health ambassador in PolyU. He promoted mental health awareness and encouraged his peers to seek help when they encounter emotional disturbance or enormous stress through campus booths and hall visits by the ambassadors. In addition, Tom joined the Social Service Group in PolyU and paid visits to disadvantaged groups such as refugee children and people with Parkinson’s disease.
With considerable experience in social service, Tom is confident that he is well prepared to take up greater social responsibilities. He is willing to play a more active role in social services in the future with his knowledge.
