Darren is a Bioengineering and Business Management student under the Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He believes that the growing applications of Bioengineering in a multitude of facets such as public health, epidemiology, and genetic modification, represent the next stepping stone in societal progression. However, he also believes that practical solutions to modern societal issues must be fundamentally pragmatic in nature. Through his additional pursuit of a business degree, he hopes to enhance his business acumen and sharpen his entrepreneurial mindset.
Passionate about education access and poverty alleviation, Darren volunteered with Colour Away COVID – a student–led and HK-based initiative that provided masks to poverty-stricken families. He has also taken part in service-based trips, such as a multi-year project providing educational services to a rural village in China. Aside from his social endeavors, he is extremely active within his college community. He represents his university in multiple sports teams and as a student ambassador. Through the plethora of opportunities provided by The D. H Chen Foundation, Darren hopes to connect with other like-minded and altruistically driven individuals and cultivate his own personal growth.
