Chan Kai Sum is majoring in Electrical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prior to that, he completed an Applied Physics program at PolyU. Kai Sum is passionate about physics, mathematics and technology. He would like to apply his knowledge in daily life and contribute to the community. He has taken part in numerous engineering competitions and activities. As the Chairman of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Student Chapter at PolyU, Kai Sum hopes to bring in innovative elements during the time he holds office, as well as to plan a social service for engineering students to connect their professional knowledge and skills with the needs of the society. Living by his motto, “we learn to serve and serve to learn”, Kai Sum truly believes that fellow students will benefit as much as they will contribute. Kai Sum is also a member of the student executive committee of University YMCA (PolyU). He is much inspired by the mission of this organization, “To serve, not to be served”. As a student diagnosed with dyslexia, he does not want to just be served by others, he wants to serve others as well and be a servant leader.
